This day trip from Las Vegas leads you from one of the world's great playgrounds to the starkly beautiful Mojave Desert. This tour takes in not only the glorious mountain scenery between Lake Mead National Recreational Area and breath-taking Valley of Fire State Park, but also the man-made wonder of Hoover Dam, the first of the world's great dams, and charming Boulder City, the town built for the dam workers.







The first people to settle in this region were the Anasazi, the ancient tribe of the Southwest. They came to this area, archaeologists believe, around the first century A.D. This part of Nevada was the western- and northernmost expansion of the Anasazi world, which was at the edge of another frontier: the American Southwest.
